In Coversation with: Chengetayi Mnisi

Meet Chengetayi Mnisi, a creative, confident go – getter, choreographer and founder of Pineapple Creative Studio who loves dancing & blogging.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

It would definitely be music, my life revolves in and around it.

What inspires everything you do in life?

My desire to succeed and make something of myself to inspire someone else one day, it may be my kids or any other person. I always think of the bigger picture.  I need to make a positive impact in the world.

Where did your love for dance come from?

I can’t say it came from somewhere really, it’s always been in me & I have no problems expressing it.

What are you most passionate about in life?

DANCE!

If you could pick one place in the world to go and perform where would it be and why?

It would definitely be here in Harare, Zimbabwe in the presence of my family. Funny enough they are the only people who haven’t seen me in action.

How did Pineapple Creative Studio come about?

It’s simply my desire to see creatives appreciated and have a space were they can perfect their craft and be who they are meant to be.

Who are your rocks in your life?

I actually have one rock, the consistent and ever present, God.

How do you cope with the highs and lows that you experience in your career and life?

Prayer, plus never losing sight of the bigger picture and the future. Being a dancer in Zim is very challenging, but I’m not in the business of giving up.

What would you be doing if it wasn’t for blogging and choreography?

I would definitely be on radio, it is such a fascinating occupation I believe, there is strength in communication. I would also be a Life Coach, I love giving motivation and inspiration.

What is your proudest achievement?

Starting Pineapple Creative Studio, I was so scared at first, but I overcame that and I’m very proud of myself and I have no plans of stopping.

Given the amount of time needed for choreography, how do you keep yourself motivated?

I’m very blessed to have a team that is so supportive and equally as passionate about dance as I am. They are my motivation.

What is a typical day at Pineapple Creative Studio like?

We plan everything out first, depending on the type of performance we would like to deliver. We figure out the songs we want to dance to first, and these are usually what we are all vibing with, it’s easier to dance to music we enjoy. So after that,  everyone contributes to the choreography process and we make it happen. It’s quite a fun process!

If you could change one thing about your life what would it be and why?

Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. Everything I’ve been through has led me here today & the fact that I’m still standing shows I’m doing just fine. I’m content with my life as it is.

If you could pick three people (artists, dancers, producers…etc) to collaborate with, who would they be and why?

Chris Brown: Have you seen the way he dances!

Reis Fernando: He is a dancer and he has so much fun in his choreography I would love to work with him.

My better half: He is the most supportive dancer I know and he always pushes me to do better. That’s the only person I could dance with for life.

What is the long term goal for Pineapple ZW?

You will just have to wait and see…

Any advice for all the aspiring dancers out there?

Believe in yourself. The dream you have inside can come true if you put enough work into it. Hard work always pays off…
