In Conversation with Design Masiya

My name is Design Masiya. I am from Chiredzi, but I am currently based in Masvingo where I am working as a lawyer. My first language is Shangani, I only got to learn Shona because of school otherwise I mostly speak Shangani.

What made want to start blogging?

I started blogging because I had always been the kind of person who kept to herself, but after graduating it dawned on me that I needed to put myself out there so as to build my confidence in preparation for my profession. I opted for a fashion blog because I figured that if I can manage to pose for pictures in public with strangers staring and giving me judgemental looks then surely, I can survive appearing in a court of law. It might sound strange, but I swear, it worked for me.

Why did you choose to blog about fashion/style?

I chose fashion/style because fashion is really my first love. I have always loved putting together outfits for as long as I can remember and so, I decided that if I am going to blog, it has to be about something that I love and enjoy.

What do you hope people will take away from reading your blog?

That you do not need expensive clothing to look good and feel good. All you need is to be creative with the items you got in your wardrobe.

Describe your blogging routine.

Currently, I have put blogging on hold as I have other commitments which make it very difficult for me to get time to blog. As soon as I can manage to fit blogging into my schedule, I will be putting up a post at least once a week.

What would you say to someone new to blogging or considering blogging?

Blog about what you are really passionate about, it is really easy to do a write up of or post about something you really love and enjoy doing.

Do you have bloggers that you follow, if so who and why?

I have a lot of amazing bloggers that I follow. I especially love Zimbabwean bloggers. Just to mention a few:

I love Chenai Muhwati’s blog anicheberry.blogspot.co.za her fashion DIYs are to die for, they are easy and yet so innovative.

I love Vimbayi of Style with Vimbayi ‘s blog stylewithvimbayi.wordpress.com because her style is very effortless yet so chic.

Then there is Sharron Mungazi of deffinatlyshaz.co.zw her posts will make anyone fall in love with fashion, her outfit ideas are always fresh.

There is also Alexandra Mantiziba of http://persuasioninczw.com I absolutely love her for her daring outfits, she is one blogger who will inspire you to make bold fashion statements.

Last but certainly not least, I love Nyasha Nicole of http://anaturellecraving.blogspot.co.uk/ for her DIY beauty hacks which are always so helpful and her blog posts are always so well written.

Would you say there are downsides to blogging, if so what are they?

Yes, they are definitely downsides to blogging. I guess I could say that for me, the downside is that you must maintain a regular posting schedule with fresh new ideas. You want to keep your followers interested, but this can be very challenging if you have other work commitments.

From your experience, what have been the best memories of being a blogger?

The best memories are definitely when my friends and I were still in the same town and we could take group photos for the blog, that was so much fun.

What does blogging mean to you?

Blogging to me means having the platform to share a glimpse of my life with people and hopefully, what i share can be helpful to someone.

What/who do you treasure the most in life?

Definitely, my family and my partner (who is also my photographer) because they are very supportive of everything that I pursue and I can’t imagine a life without them.
