In Conversation with: Yananiso Dhliwayo

My name is Yananiso, I am 17 and I live in Harare. I have three siblings, I grew up with one of them and two of my cousins. I recently reunited with the other two. I really enjoy art and I feel I’m actually really good at that. I sketch half the time. Sometimes I only notice when I’m done. I am also good at swimming, I’m a food lover and a music and wattpad addict when I have my phone.

What made want to get involved with this?

I think this is really cool especially after I saw my cousin Catherine Makaya who is also into modeling. She started  out on a small scale but now she has become this gorgeous model that people love and i hope to get to that state. I am a huge fan of fashion but i am not exactly the greatest at putting outfits together. I think that if i do this it will help me figure out my style and hopefully it will solve my outfit problem. I just feel this will be an opportunity to do more and accomplish great things in life.

Who is the person you admire most?

That would be my mother. With her being a single parent things really got hard for us, but she just found ways to pull through. She cares so much and that means everything to me and I’m sure the people she has stood by through tough times and cared for would say the same thing. So, I really do admire her for her courage, the way she is so humble, kind, caring and many other things I cant finish talking about within a day. She is the type of person I want to become.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Most important lesson….that time is everything. A moment lost is a moment lost forever.

How would your friends describe you?

Weird and artistic. They say I’m weird because I’m always kind of doing my own thing and I really see things differently. I’m a huge fan of art and I’m good at it so I practice a lot. Sometimes I sketch without actually being aware of it. I only notice when I’m done.

Your song at the moment

Desperado by Rihanna.

When are you happiest?

I am happiest when I’m alone listening to music , reading a novel on wattpad or when I’m drawing.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I wanted to be an artist.

If you could give up anything for a year what would it be?

If I could give up anything for I year I would give up my complexion I have a serious case of uneven skin tone so I’ve been having trouble with that. I cant wear things like shorts even if they have a normal  appropriate length or tops with thin arm straps. People start saying that I bleach my body because its lighter than my face and that just upsets me. So if i could give up anything, my complexion would be it. …..weird but you did say anything.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Guilty pleasure….that would be chocolate,

What are you most fond of about being Zimbabwean?

I love our education system here in Zim. Its one of the best all over the world.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Best advice…Never create your own heart breaks through expectations.

How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as that person people couldn’t describe because she did great and wonderful things no one could rate or explain using words.
