In Conversation with Robin Chaibva

How would you describe yourself?

I am Robin Chaibva and I feel I am always an evolving person who is really a gypsy soul. I enjoy changing.

When did you get bitten by the travel bug?

I always liked being away from my norm. Being in boarding school as a teen and going to SA for school the idea of being away always was in my upbringing. When I travel I escape my norm I find out new things about myself and how I can survive. So, since I learnt to be away from people… I was weened at 2 months I been at this gypsy soul thing.

How many places have you visited so far?

Not many places. Furthest is China Beijing and WuHan and then Kuala Lumpur. Regionally, SA, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zanzibar and in transit Addis Ababa and Nairobi airport.

Where are you planning to go in 2018?

I wish I knew. I cannot even plan at the moment if I will be doing Zimbabwe places or outside.

During your travels which places have been your favourite to visit and why?

Favourite was wuHan city in China I was there for work. There were people dancing in the street after work and lots of lights on buildings, the city of lakes. Loved it so much good vibes.

How frequently do you travel and given the resources how often would you like to travel?

I would travel every month with resources. I travel spontaneously so there has been no set frequency I travel when I can or should.

What inspired you to start Hamba now ?

I thought whether I wanted to stay in an office job my whole life till I started a family, or I wanted to see new places. I chose travel as an industry I wanted.

Apart from blogging what else do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy natural hair styling and making dope travel gear under HAMBA now. I started as a fashion blogger and until I did travel I launched a fashion label. I was invited to Lilongwe by a young visionary Major Carter (He died few months after) so I thank him for believing a blogger could.

Describe a typical day in your life.

Wake up. Go for training in the morning with my coach. BACK home I plan my day and see if I need to work on HAMBA gear or website or travel or Natural Hair enterprising. I sell Feso as a source of revenue… if I need to blog or post on my interests travel fitness etc.

I then obviously plan what I am eating and if I dare challenge myself to an aerobics class by my other trainer friends’ community. When I am in a relationship I would include seeing the person. But now it’s my house chores

What is the soundtrack to your life?

Soundtrack of my life is UMC song. Jehova Anotipa Chisepe Misi yese… as an entrepreneur I must stay positive and motivated and have structure. I have to fight off doubt, so a gospel song reminds me kuti every day The Lord is with me.

Who inspires you the most in life?

Inspiration is Ali and Bruce Lee. As someone who trains a lot their strength and resilience mirrors our lives in entrepreneurship relationships and hardships. So, in my fitness and thinking their words and hardwork inspires me the most.

If you were give up something for a year what would it be and why?

I would give it up for more than a year of I am to give up something. I would give up my social media accounts and WhatsApp. Just to have some individual space we are too connected to all the wrong things.

What is your advice for other budding travellers and what are the essential factors they need to consider before taking up travelling?

Travellers need to stop fearing travelling alone. If you want to travel forget comfort think of safety and cutting costs. You are not P. Diddy so deal with it. Save when you can. Going out every weekend and expecting to afford a trip later is silly. Save. Always plan tl of schedule.

What are you most fond of, about being Zimbabwean?

I like drawing the shape of Zimbabwe and the striped flag. So pretty.

How would you like to be remembered?

The girl who lost 17kgs and reclaimed a nice body from hardwork. A fitness, fashion, travel and digital enthusiast.
