Joy  Kobusinge is a 24-year-old born again Christian Ugandan lady and CEO of Kanyonyi Cakes.

How did Kanyonyi cakes come to be?

I started baking in 2015, on small scale. Supplying shops around home with cupcakes though my business grew so fast because of how aggressive I was. I did a lot of social media marketing which helped me boost my growth.

Where do you get inspiration for your cakes?

My cake designs are inspired by my clients who order for extra ordinary designs and they always challenge me to give them the best.

Where can people buy your cakes?

For those in Uganda, they can buy my cakes at my cake shop in Nankulabye. For the rest of the world, they can order on my online platforms.

What has been your favourite cake so far?

Every time I make cake it comes out as my favorite. My work surprises me as well.

Describe a typical day in your life.

My typical day. Lots of interactions with clients, searching about cakes, different recipes. Baking of course, trying out new designs and a lot of Instagram.

How do you keep yourself motivated, when business is slow?

Motivation on a slow day.  Romans 8:28, and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.

What is the one thing that you would give up for a year?

I would give up Facebook and I’m currently off.

Who inspires the most in life? 

My parents inspire me most, they’ve been there for me through everything.

Who are your favourite bakers? 

Favourite bakers. Ben Cullen – The bake king.

When are you happiest?

I am happiest when I get feedback from my clients especially when they are thanking me for the perfect work I would have done.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Advice for entrepreneurs is that they should work within their means, believe in themselves and trust God in all they do.

What are you most proud of about being Ugandan?

Uganda is the pearl of Africa.

What is the most important lesson that life has taught you?

Life has taught me to serve, be humble and patient.

How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as someone who lived a purposeful life, changed people’s lives positively. Someone who preached the gospel in all ways by all means and most importantly loved and believed in people.
