In Conversation with: Blaq Diva Quin

Blaq Diva Quin, born Nobuntu Mnkandla is a Rap Queen from Bulawayo, aged 20. She a feminist and signed under Legacy Empire.

How would your family and friends describe you?

As an ambitious person, confident and humorous l do the joke telling at home mostly lol.

Where did your love for music come from?

My sister was a great singer and l enjoyed listening to her when l was young, and l started doing the same just in a different angle.

What do you hope people will take away from listening to your music?

I want my music to be a source of healing for people. So many people are still where they used to be just because they lack motivation, empowerment and revival for some. l want my music to inspire these people to start believing in themselves and start living their dreams.

How would you describe your style of music and what inspired it?

My music is to empower, inspire and motivate and what inspires it is the fact that l faced too many challenges growing up emotionally that stopped me from doing things l knew l could do well. Doing music has allowed me to break away from that shell you know.

How have people reacted to your music so far?

People are showing so much love and respect and so much appreciation for my music and I am grateful for that I guess l’m heading in the right direction so far.

Apart from music, what else do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy studying a lot…my dad taught me that knowledge is all the power you will ever need in this world and l believe in that too and l love being in charge.

Where in the world do you wish to perform one day?

It would be at Disney world because that’s where dreams mostly matter and me living my dream right now is beautiful and l would love to share that with people that understand it.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you so far?

It’s that in this life if you don’t play the lead role towards achieving your goal it’s never gonna happen and that also means giving up a lot just to get there.

Describe a typical day in your life.

Waking up as early as 5am to do a video shoot to about 10am, then off to the studio to write and record something like 3-4 tracks, with in between breaks of photoshoots and spending the whole night writing bars preparing for the next day.

Where is your favourite place to perform?

Awards ceremonies.

Who are your favourite artists and why?

Beyonce Knowles- l love her stage presence and dominance in all her performances.

Nicki Minaj- l love her writing, her flows and rhymes in all her songs. l plan on presenting Blaq Diva Quin as a combination of the two.

Which artists would you like to work with and why?

Eminem-he has a unique way of sending a good message across but at the same present great rhymes.

Takura- his sound is quite different from most artists and that’s important as an artist.

When are you happiest?

When l am on stage doing what l do best and people showing love.

If you could give up anything for a year what would it be and why?

School because with school you will always have a chance there is no age limit unlike some careers.

What is your favourite thing about being Zimbabwean?

Zimbabwe is one of the top African countries with the highest literacy rates.

How would you like to be remembered?

As a reminder that anything is possible as long as you put your all in it just to make it happen.
