Tapiwa Jeannie is a young upcoming Zimbabwean artist and fashion designer who is still looking for her sound.
Where did your love for music come from?
My love for music comes from being involved in musical activities at school.
What do you hope people will take away from listening to your music?
I hope they take away life experience, I write what happens in the world and what we go through in our daily lives.
How would you describe your style of music?
I am still looking for my sound, but so far, I do Trap Soul and Jazz.
How have people reacted to your music so far?
So far, it’s been low because I’m not yet well known, only a few know me and my music.
Apart from music, what else do you enjoy doing?
I’m also a fashion designer, designing clothes for different people.
Where in the world do you wish to perform your music one day?
I would love to perform in Canada one day.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you so far?
To never trust anyone but myself, I used to trust all the people that came into my life and I would do everything in my power to please them. Since I was hurt by someone I trusted so deeply I will never trust people again.
What are you currently working on and what can we expect from you this year?
I recently released two songs, Tsungirira and Your body on me. I will have to work hard and be able to release an EP and a couple of videos.
Describe a typical day in your life.
I wake up early in the morning, go to work and after I hit the studio and then I go home after.
Who is your favourite artist and why?
Chiwoniso has been the artist I adored since day one. She had a character of her own and she was a strong woman who was able to take a stand for herself. That is why she is my favourite artist.
When are you happiest?
When I receive money, that’s when I’m happy I love money.
If you could give up anything for a year what would it be and why?
Social media because I spend a lot time on it.
What is your favourite thing about being Zimbabwean?
I love that I have the freedom to be whoever I wanna be.
How would you like to be remembered?
As one of greatest musicians.
