Tatty Marawa, real name Tatenda Marawanyika, is a Zimbabwean singer and songwriter signed under the record label Way Too Nice Media Group.

Where did your passion for music come from?

Music has always been a part of me for as long as I can remember. Growing up I was always interested in writing songs and singing (anywhere and everywhere). I fell in love with music at a very young age and I’d like to believe that kind of passion came from God.

How long have you been singing for?

I’ve been singing since high school and that’s when I really found the confidence to sing in public and to share my original songs with friends and family. Professionally, I released my first single end of 2018 called I Will Stay.

What do you hope people will get from listening to your music?

I’m just trying to make the world a better place through music so I put in a lot of heart in my music and I’d like other people to feel and relate to it too with some hope for a better tomorrow.

How would you describe your style of music?

I focus mainly on the soul vibey kind of style but I strongly believe that creativity knows no bounds so my style can change with any song and the message I’ll be trying to put across.

Which artists inspire you and why them?

Tamy, Adele, Tasha Cobbs and Angel. They have managed to work within and outside societal expectations and just be who they are and use their gifts to full potential. It’s hard to be who you are in a world that prefers telling you who you should be.

What have been the highlights of your career so far?

I’d have to say when I was signed by Way Too Nice Media group. This opened a major door which led to me being part of the GOAT album by Traeyung and Noblestyles on my first feature called So in Love. The possibilities for greater heights are endless.

What are you currently working on?

I recently just released my first 2019 single called Manyemwe and I am working on releasing more music, dropping some visuals and some exciting collaborations.

Describe a typical day in your life.

Wake up to prepare for work, which isn’t a pretty scene because I love my sleep lol, do some vocal exercises in the shower whilst everyone else is trying to sleep hehe. I try to get some work done and take advantage of my surroundings to draw some inspiration, go to the studio to work on some music or discuss future projects. Then home time.

Where in the world would you like to go and perform?

Mmmh I really don’t have a specific place or country but I do however want people connect with my music wherever and whenever I perform.

What is your future vision for your music?

Growth is of utmost importance to me so I’d like to spread my wings and work with artists outside of Zimbabwe, share different cultures through music and change the world one song at a time even if it’s just one person.

Which artists would you like to work with and why?

Local artists I’d have to say Takura, ExQ and Tamy. Have you ever listened to a song and not have to question the amount of work, commitment and energy someone put into writing and performing that song? Yep, they don’t play with their craft and I respect that.

Who are your favourite artists, local and international?

That list is very long lol but for now I’ll say Tori Kelly, Angel, Ciara, Lauren Daigle and Phil Thompson.

What is the soundtrack to your life?

 Blessings by Angel.

What are you most proud of about being Zimbabwean?

How we Zimbabweans manage to stay positive, make jokes and pull through tough times. Who we are and how we react during trying times has shaped our culture.

How would you like to be remembered?

As someone who was kind, positive and never hid her love for God.
