Where did your passion for music come from?
My passion for music came from back home in Zimbabwe, I lived next door to a DJ so every morning would wake up to music. My family used to host a lot of parties and I always volunteered to play music, everything I did growing up had music in it. Since I loved music so much, but I wasn’t a good dancer, so I decided to be curator organise playlist, I am people’s person and I feel like music brings peace and harmony amongst us all.
Who are your music heroes?
That is a very tricky one because I listen to all sorts of music in my spare time, the list is endless, but my all-time favourites are Dr Dre, Eminem, DJ Kent SA, Shimza & Stones and Bones.
Who have been your favourite artists to work with?
Every artist I have worked with so far has been my favourite because I always try to make a connection with the artist. I try to understand them as a person not just an artist, so it’s been a pleasure to work with them all such as Caiiro, Prince Kaybee, Lebza the villain & Stones and Bones.
As a producer how do you know when a track you’ve made has that thing?
Funny enough I am still looking for that thing on my unreleased tracks, but you can feel the track as a producer when it has that thing that people can relate to. It can be the drum pattern, the bassline, the melodies or the vocals as well, so that thing in a track as producer you just know it’s there when you are making the track and vibing to it as well.
Which artists would you like to work with?
To be honest I am willing to work with any artist whether upcoming like myself or big artists, but right now the artist I wanna work with is Nitefreak. I grew up with him and his music is coming from my neighbourhood and I have a close connection with him it’s easier to work with someone you can vibe with. But in all honesty, I would wanna work with anyone willing I have no limits.
What song would you say describes you best?
At the current moment it’s a song by Eminem- Going through changes from the album recovery. I can relate to his song and he sings about the changes he is going though in the industry and his personal life. It describes me now because I am going through changes myself trying to develop as an artist, producer and DJ I have to change a lot of things in the way I carry myself and do things with professionalism.
What’s your process for coming up with a playlist for Friday Night with ATM?
It’s a simple process I look at the music charts during that week what people are listening to and vibing to. I also look at my own playlist and what I have in there that I think people can vibe to as well and I look for underground artists and music that is not heard. I put all these together having in mind I am a DJ for the listeners not only myself.
How are you finding it so far?
Everything is challenging once you start something new, but once you settle in and catch the rhythm it becomes natural, but at the moment it’s challenging with been away as well.
What has been your highlight of 2019?
My highlight for 2019 was when I was featured on the Stones & Bones band Greece Tour, it was an amazing experience to DJ for a totally different kind of crowd and it opened doors for me as well.
What should we expect from you in 2020?
2020 should bring music from myself and artists within my record label so be expecting to hearing my music and hopefully more tours abroad.
