Meet Chengeto, a super talented and stunning singer/songwriter and a member of the newly formed creative collective, VERYUS.
Where did your passion for music come from?
I discovered my passion for music at the age of 4. Growing up in a musical family created a constant exposure of music around me.
Besides the fact that it ran in my blood line by the time I was 8 I realized music is what I wanted to do forever and it didn’t make sense for me to do anything else.
Where do you see yourself in music, what type of artist are you?
I’ve always believed that my music would be used as a tool to change the world in some form whether big or small the impact has to be there I’ve never been one to do it for the benefit of materialistic things because the gift I was given is not just for myself but for the people.
Who inspires you in your career and in life?
My mother because she taught to stay grounded and humble in this industry.
What can we expect from you in 2017?
Music, music and more music. An international sound and visual to elevate the music industry in our country.
What is your greatest achievement in life so far?
Coming back home and dealing with what I couldn’t deal with it 5 years ago musical and mentally because I needed that growth to have a tough interior in Zimbabwe.
Who are the rocks in your life?
God and My family.
Where does the inspiration for your songs come from?
Just life experiences and things that have made me grow as a person.
What is your favourite song and why?
Mai by Chiwoniso because I’ve always felt like the song provides guidance for my life.
If not for music, what else would you be doing?
Aside from my music, I’ve always loved helping other people so I’d be a social worker.
What do you hope people take away from listening to your music?
Truth. I hope they feel better after listening to my music that it helps them realize things they couldn’t before.
Which artists would you like to work with?
The list is long!! From Takura , Tamy , Nutty O to AKA , Nasty C the list goes on and on just to name a few.
Who is your favourite Zim artist and why?
At the moment is have to say Tamy. She’s got such a unique voice going on. She’s definitely someone to look out for.
What keeps you motivated during the low moments in your life?
Music and my family. No question about that.
Where in the world would you like to perform and why?
Coachella Festival. Filling out Rufaro stadium here at home. Growing up I watched all my favourites do that so it’s a long felt child dream.
What are you most fond of about being Zimbabwean?
We are happy people, but we hustle. There’s no hustle like the Zimbabwean hustle. Hatirare. And that hunger for hustle if used the right way, can take one to great places.
Describe a typical day in your life.
I wake up. I go for a jog. I write a plan for my day out then off to studio from there on its almost unpredictable how the day goes.
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
My music playlist haha.
What is the biggest lesson that you have learnt in your career and life so far, that you wished you knew sooner?
At the end of the day, always stay true to yourself. Don’t change for anything unless it’s your growth.

Have you got any advice for other young artists who are starting out and trying to make their mark?
Go hard. This industry is a tough one. Want it as much as u want to breathe. Don’t lose yourself trying to be like everyone else we are perfect in our own way.
